Tsai Loo took up the violin at the age of six. He obtained his Bachelor of Music degree and Professional Diploma at HKAPA, studying with Alice Waten, the former Head of Strings, Michael Ma and Chao Bee-darn. During his studies there, he was awarded the Ricci Scholarship for Violin Performance and Exxon Scholarship. As a chamber musician he has played a recital with his Trio for RTHK and gave a performance at the Government House. In the summers of 1992, 1994 and 1996, he joined the Asian Youth Orchestra and toured Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines. Tsai is currently Assistant Principal Second Violin of Hong Kong Sinfonietta.

Candidates are expected to play at least to the level of ABRSM Grade 5 or equivalent.
Completion of a graded exam however is not required.
