Alston Ng

Choirmaster

Alston Ng is an active choral conductor and chorister in Hong Kong. He began his conducting career as the Choirmaster of the Hong Kong University Students’ Union Choir in 2006, and enjoys a diversity of performances. In 2008, Alston was invited to be the guest conductor of the Fundraising Concert for the Reconstruction of Sichuan, featuring soprano Yuki Ip and baritone Albert Lim performing Fauré’s Requiem in aid of the victims of the “Great Sichuan Earthquake”.

Alston is the Music Teacher of Bishop Hall Jubilee School, and has led the School Choir as conductor performing both locally and overseas. Under his teaching, the choir has won multiple Gold Awards in the Winter Choral Festival, Gold Award in the Hong Kong International Youth and Children’s Choral Festival, Gold Diploma in the Guangzhou International Open Competition, Silver Award in Orientale Concentus VIII, Best Secondary School Girls’ Choir in the 2nd Division, as well as numerous prizes in the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival.

Alston also serves as the Conductor of Lam Woo Alumni Choir and is currently singing with the Hong Kong Young People’s Chorus and HKSKH Collegium Musicum Sacrum.

Alston was appointed as the Choirmaster of the Hong Kong Festival Voices (HKFV) in 2013, a position that he has served since. At HKFV, Alston has also served as choirmaster to Vassily Sinaisky in the historical production of Berlioz’s Requiem in 2015.

Alston participated in the different conducing masterclasses and workshops, where he studied choral conducting briefly with Gábor Hollerung, Fred Sjöberg, Johnny Ku and Reverend Lee Chong Min. Alston currently studies choral conducting under Apollo Wong and vocal performance under Albert Lim.
