Edwin Lam

Viola

Edwin Lam graduated from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA), majoring viola performance with Mr. Ray Tsoi. Edwin has received the Grantham Scholarship, HKSAR Government Scholarship in 2013 and Y.S. Liu Foundation Scholarship in 2015.

As an orchestral player, Edwin was the Viola Principal of the Asian Youth Orchestra in the year 2013, 2014 and the Viola Principal of the Kent Blossom Chamber Orchestra in 2015. Also Edwin has been invited to join the opera production of the Turandot and Carmen with Musica Viva and Hong Kong Virtuosi, The Cunning Little Vixen by Leoš Janáček with HKAPA.

Edwin has performed as an orchestral musician under the baton of many world renowned conductors such as James Judd, Brett Mitchell, Ken-David Masur, José Serebrier, Krzysztof Kusiel-Moroz, etc. And accompanied great musicians like Steven Isserlis, Peter Donohoe, Branford Marsalis, Charlie Siem, etc.

Apart from orchestral playing, Edwin is also interested in chamber music playing. As a chamber musician, he has had masterclasses with the Endellion Quartet, Szymanowski Quartet, Miami Quartet and Shanghai Quartet. In summer 2015, Edwin was selected to be a participant of the Kent Blossom Music Festival with scholarship in Kent, USA. In the Festival, Edwin has received lessons from the former Principal Violist and Assistant Principal Violist of the Cleveland Orchestra, Robert Vernon and Stanley Konopka. 

After graduation, Edwin was invited by different orchestra as a freelancer to perform in various concert which included Hong Kong Sinfonia, Hong Kong Strings and China Hong Kong Youth Symphony Orchestra. Edwin is now a freelance violist of the City Chamber of Hong Kong and Hong Kong String Orchestra.
